Who am I?

My name is Sara Barratt, and this is me. I have been practising as a Reflexologist since September 2004, and have been practising Indian head and neck massage since May 2005. II am fully qualified and insured, and am a Member of the Association of Reflexologists.
I have also completed training in Aromaflex and Reiki level 2. In 2007 I qualified as a teacher of Kundalini yoga.

Prior to becoming a holistic practitioner, I was working in the I.T. industry as a computer programmer, and then a trainer. I initially left university with a degree in Business Studies, so complementary therapy is a bit of a change, but I feel more "myself" and gain far more job satisfaction now (which I hope shows in the way I treat my clients!)

My qualifications and experience

When deciding to study reflexology, I chose a course accredited by the Association of Reflexologists, as they have a high standard of requirement.

My reflexology diploma course included Anatomy and Physiology, learning all the body systems and how they interact, a good grounding knowledge of many common illnesses and ailments, conventional medical treatments for them, and appropriate holistic treatment, as well as an extensive set of practical assignments and case studies, taking medical history and researching the conditions of my case study clients as well as treating them, giving appropriate advice and recording and monitoring treatments. As well as the history and theory of reflexology, the course also covered broader elements of holistic treatments such as how lifestyle can affect health.

For Indian Head and Neck Massage, I studied at the same school as for reflexology. This course also included more specialised anatomy, physiology and pathology of the head and neck area as well as practical work and case studies.

Again, when studying Aromaflex, I returned to the Caritas school. We studied the chemical make up of essential oils, how they work with the body's systems, how to blend and apply them, and safety issues such as the use of oils in pregnancy, and with certain medical conditions.

In addition to my formal qualifications, I attend seminars and workshops to broaden my professional knowledge. I have attended seminars on such subjects as praxis vertebralis (neurological foot reflexology), male and female infertility from a Chinese meridian viewpoint, and even "reading toes" - a way to identify personality traits by looking at feet!

I am particularly experienced at treating conditions such as stress, back problems (including sacro-iliac problems and sciatica) and digestive imbalances. I have also treated a number of ladies during pregnancy, and they find that reflexology eases some of the "side effects" of being pregnant! (Reflexology is also said to ease and shorten labour).

I have a wide ranging experience in working with different types of people, including the physically disabled, people with learning disabilities and people with mental illnesses.
